CHILLER SOUND CONTROL IN SENSITIVE SETTINGS

Planned in the heart of Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood for a 160+ year old mill building were (3) new chillers expected to exceed local noise codes upon start up. BRD Noise & Vibration Control was brought on by the project acoustician during the planning stage, and tasked with providing a free-standing solution to meet the target dB(A) goals along with minimal pressure drop impact.

Upon completion of an engineering site visit, BRD designed, built and delivered a PE-rated Unitary-IM-SB System™ Independently Mounted to the chiller platform, with a Silencer Bank suspended above the chiller deck to address the condenser fan exhaust and noise output at the source.

Pictured to the left is a close-up image of the PE-rated baseplate connection used to facilitate the independent system frame.

BRD silencers provided additional attenuation and limited fan discharge pressure drop to no more than 0.08” W.G., while exceeding target dB levels. Our Hushcore® Unitary-IM-SB System™ achieved 11 dB(A) reduction on average across the octave bands, performing particularly well at the high frequencies with up to 17 dB(A) reduction in the 1000hz band:

Unitary IM-SB (Insertion Loss)
BRD’s design met wind load requirements, and was PE stamped and approved – providing peace of mind and assurance behind the solution and its performance.
BRD FOREMAN SUPERVISION

In addition to install documents BRD provided onsite presence and a supervising foreman responsible for
direction and oversight of a successful completion of
the installation.
